Australia’s Most Expensive Suburbs

If you were earning over a thousand dollars a week wouldn’t you want to splurge it on a shiny fortress? Check out some of Australia’s most expensive suburbs.

With five of Australia’s most expensive suburbs selling their houses in the million dollar range, it’s no wonder the land down under remains a top 10 contender on the world’s richest list.

So what do these five locations have in common? Waterside views; it seems that the richest Aussies just can’t get enough of the water even though the whole bloody country is surrounded by it! SwitchMyLoan looked at five Australian states to determine where the nation’s wealthiest are hiding!

We identified the following suburbs as Australia’s wealthiest:

Point Piper is a small affluent suburb in Eastern Sydney, highlighted by Wolseley Street which is one of the wealthiest streets in the world. This residential suburb has a peaceful harbour side vibe, perfect for those older individuals with cash spilling out of their ears. With water side views, these shiny taj mahal looking million dollar houses definitely do impress.
Unsurprisingly this region has been home to various Aussie political and financial figures, namely Federal Communications Minister Malcom Turnball, Aussie Home Loans founder John Symond and Westfield boss Frank Lowy.

Have you ever wondered what $17.5 million dollars will get you in the lush suburb of Peppermint Grove? One of Perth’s most historic houses of course. Chiritta is an 18th century, heritage listed home that was sold last year at the ‘bargain’ price of $17.5 million to Nigel Satterley the CEO and founder of the Satterley property group. Houses like this of course come with no less that five carports, and a study as well as two offices. Some of Perth’s most influential figureheads have called Peppermint Grove home with the former Lord Mayor of Perth: Edward Keane and  the  first Western Australian premier John Forrest being two of this affluent areas earliest residents.

Where modern day Rockefeller’s reside. Toorak is known as Melbourne’s most elite suburb; often synonymous with the wealthy, privileged and the ‘real housewives’ (unfortunately they’re not included in the sale price!) Thinking a 30 metre pool and private tennis courts might be too much work to maintain in these contemporary fortresses? Tough luck, every house includes one…or sometimes two! Just last year a six bedroom estate on Towers Road sold for $25million; the only let down to this fairytale castle was that it held three bathrooms. You would have thought if they could afford a six bedroom house worth $25million they would have added in a few extra powder rooms for fun! This enchanting suburb has also been home to television and radio personality Eddie McGuire.

Unley Park has had its very own taste of Hollywood with a history of notable actors both living and working in the region. American actor and director Mel Gibson fell for the extravagant lures of the area, as he once lived in a home that recently sold for $2 million in this lavish suburb. Geoffrey Rush has also visited the area and was even filmed jumping near naked on a trampoline in a scene that featured in Oscar winning film ‘Shine.’ Unley Park is also home to Victoria Avenue, Adelaides wealthiest street.

From farming to riches, this beautiful beach side residential suburb has definitely turned itself around. With a notable median age of just 33 we can see that youngsters are quickly making their way to the top. As housing prices soar to just below the million dollar mark, Hawthorne is quickly becoming a suburb to watch out for.  Identified also for having the most expensive street in Queensland, Aaron Avenue exhibits median house prices of approximately $3.999million. This suburb is also home to the legendary team “The Hawks”, demonstrating the area’s community spirit.
